How to Start a Blog

If you have not noticed the internet is probably hotter compared to the hottest Hollywood "It Girl". Millions of people worldwide use the internet for a number of reasons; work, school, research, communication - name it, the internet does the job. A generation of "netizens" or citizens of the net have created a world of cyberspace where anyone and everyone can do anything at any given time. If there is one thing that the internet has made possible - it is for people to get themselves heard online. There's social networking to connect with friends, online videos to promote one's self and of course, blogging for people who love to write.

Blogging has redefined itself throughout the years and bloggers worldwide have also evolved into a different class online. In a nutshell blogging is basically writing about anything online likened to writing a journal or a diary. So, what are the steps to follow on how to start a blog? There are a million tips online that could teach you how to start a blog but there are simple ways of doing so.

Find your Blogger identity.

To put it simply, you have to find your niche. "What kind of blogger do you want to be?" is an important question that you need to ask before starting a blog. There are different kinds of bloggers online and they talk about almost any topic known to man; bloggers who talk about fashion, technology, sports, music, movies, food, traveling or just about their day-to-day lives. A variety of writers found their niche by writing what they love and what they are interested in and you can too.

If there is one thing that stops people from pushing through with starting a blog it is the fear of what if it won't be interesting enough for people to read. Do not over think and over analyze. Just write what you love and people will love it too.

Choose a Blog Platform

After deciding on what kind of blog you want to put up, choose your blog platform that will host your blog site. There are a number of sites that offer free hosting like Blogger, WordPress, or Tumblr these are only to name a few. These blog hosting sites allow you to have a blog for free and sometimes would even assist you on how to start a blog. These blog hosting sites even let you store the photographs that you want to include in your posts.

Choose the right blog hosting site that will suit your needs but if you have no idea, you can always read reviews online and see what people think about these sites.

The Name Game

In the blogging world, your name is your identity. Other bloggers will identify and associate you with that name. You have to think of your name as a brand, in the long run when your blog will have more loyal readers and followers they will promote you to other bloggers with that name. Make sure that name is unique and represents who you really are or what your blog is about. You can go the mysterious route, the cutesy names or be a no nonsense blogger using simply your name.

Get yourself out there

Depending on whether you write about a specific topic or you talk about personal stuff the main reason you blog is for sharing and being heard. Promote your blog to readers through social networking, post up links of your new posts. Eventually word will get out of about a new blog until you hit your target audience. And, in the long run the more your readership will expand you may even earn from it.

Blogging is open to anyone who wants to write, it doesn't matter if you are a professional writer or you simply write to express yourself, just take the step to begin your blogging journey.

Blog and Business

The term blog is derived from the word weblog. It started as a personal online journal where people could write and publish their own thoughts and opinions about any subject that they wanted to talk about on the internet. These are published and viewed in chronological order making it look like an online diary. There are many authors who still describe blogs as online diary. However, these are not just used to publish the personal musings and tattling of people, because these are also used for business. With this perspective in mind, it can also be said that blogs are special type of websites.

Blogging is free that is why there are many people that made use of platform to promote their businesses. Blog posts can become popular if written with authority. Through the social media networks these can be shared and thus gain popularity. With this power ready to be harnessed, businesses are taking to blogging to capture audience and build a client base.

There are several advantages of using blogs for business promotion. These advantages are:

· You don't need technical knowledge

Writing a blog is just like writing on any document editor. After you have written your piece you will just upload it to a website like wordpress.com or blogspot.com that have simple interface. You don't need to hire a web designer to do it for you because you can it all by yourself.

· Interactive

The readers can leave comments on your blog post and these comments are often a start of a lengthy discussion thread. You can take advantage of these comments to engage your readers to the products and services you offer. It is a great way to find clients and build a network.

When you create blog posts there are also guidelines that you need to bear in mind. There first one is that you must bear in mind that when you write a blog post it should not overly and directly promote your business. People don't like ready outright promotion. Just make sure that your blogs contain a wealth of information then people will keep reading it. It would also not hurt if you promote your blogs on social networking sites.

Your Website - Make The Best of Your Marketing Tool

Generally a website is budgeted for and created as a marketing tool (or in some cases as a customer tool, e.g. a membership site or a support site). So, on that basis - thinking about the marketing aspect - surely the idea is to create something that firstly attracts visitors and then through a process converts them into leads and customers? Why then do we get hung up about the style and type of website that you have, over a much bigger consideration?

Personally I'd like a website in a style and type that attracts visitors and converts them into customers. A website needs to be in line with what your customers want, not you as a business owner. On that basis the type and design of your website needs to be in line with your visitors', and potential, customers' needs and wants. Not what your web designer wants, not what you want... what your prospects want. I'm not saying design isn't important but that it is only one element of website effectiveness, not the main part as is so often thought to be the case.

Can your website be found online as a solution to customers' problems? When you want information about something, you Google a phrase relating to what you want to know in the hope that you will find a website that will give you the answer, or at least the beginnings of the answer.

What implications does that have for your website as a business owner? Your content needs to be based on your keyword research. So your website needs to include content that will be likely to appear in search results for the phrases that your prospects are searching for. That's where keyword research and optimising your website for those keywords comes in. You also need to be providing useful content that will engage your prospects when they find your website. If they select your website following searching for 'help' then you need to be providing them with that help or at least a route to getting it.

The easiest way to do that for all businesses nowadays is to set up a website based around a blog, which is how you can easily publish relevant content. Websites with an integrated blog are becoming more and more popular and are very search engine friendly as well as flexible for you to update yourself. It is easy to integrate this type of website-blog with your social media activity and, in fact, can enhance that activity by providing you with an on-line hub where you can send your connections who want to find out more about what you have to offer and who are looking for answers to their questions.

One of the strongest marketing technique is to position yourself and your business as 'expert' in your niche, field, local area (however you are describing where your target market will be looking for you). And with a blog-website integration you have a much better opportunity to do that with all the content that you can publish to help your visitors and prospects.

New website-blog collaborations are now easily customised to provide a very appealing design. When you know what you want from your website, a little research into which blog-website combination to use and a very business-like website can be built. So be open to the possibilities that a blog and website could generate - like visitors and customers!

Don't be put off looking at what's on offer, thinking that it doesn't have the right 'look' for your business or because it doesn't fit your existing idea of what a website should look like or what it should do. If you genuinely want an online presence that will bring you more leads, more prospects and more customers you need to embrace the new content-rich, dynamic websites that can be built. They do take more ongoing focus and work to keep them effective, but in exchange you will get more business.

3 Reasons Why You Need To Start A Blog

The first step in converting more sales online is traffic generation. There have been several studies conducted that shows that businesses that blog tend to get more traffic than those that don't. Now if you happened to be in the minority and do not blog for some strange reason, I'd like to bring three key benefits of blogging to your attention.

Many people still get a blog and a website confused, but they're actually very different. A website is more utilitarian, it serves as tool to show the function and basic information of produces and serves, as well as process transactions. A blog is a tool that allows you to build a relationship with your prospects and customers. It's a hub where you can show your brand personality and what it's all about. A blog is a community hub.

As I stated in the last paragraph, blogging attracts more visitors to your website. The more you blog, the more fresh content you're creating and Google like fresh content. So naturally, the more content you produce the more traffic search engines will send your way. You'll also benefit from getting more pages indexed, which will increase your chances of getting organic search traffic.

Blogging also builds credibility and positions you as an expert in your industry or niche. People are usually online searching for a solution to their problem, and/or tips and tricks that will help them save time, money, or effort. By blogging, you have the ability to create insanely useful content that answers all your customers questions. This builds trust overtime and trust is the foundation of a successful business.

Your blog is your central hub online. It's the home of your brand, and the place you eventually want to drive all your traffic. While most might not see it as such, your blog acts as a very effective lead generation tool. Blogging is a great way to attract leads that can in turn convert into customers or email subscribers.

Lead generation is an absolute necessity for every business. A blog is that type of lead gen tool that's always working for you, 24/7. Once you produce the content, it gets indexed and people search and come to your blog. Once there, they consume your content and get a feel for who you are and what you're all about. If they come to like your brand they'll subscribe to your email list or other retention channel, which will allow you to communicate with them more in the future.

Making Money From Blogging: Is This Still Possible and How?

People have different reasons for setting up a blog. These include wanting ot drive traffic to an e-commerce site; making it another source of income; or they might want it just for a hobby to have fun with. Often it's a mix of these, sometimes event all three.

Whether set up on a blogging platform, such as Google's Blogspot, or on an independent website, a blog won't make money without visitors. Be warned, there is no quick and easy route to getting lots of traffic. It takes time which you might be prepared to invest yourself, or employ someone else for.

Content

The first element of this is publishing regular, quality content. Generally blogs do better traffic-wise if their content is themed to match a niche.

Thus, if you are a wine importer, your blog can be a series of articles about the wines you offer, whether they should be drunk chilled, and what food they go with. Occasionally you might want to digress and give information about a wine tasting trip or an area where the wine is produced. But somehow there must be a wine connection, either direct or more subtle. Many of your readers will find this interesting so it should be easy to find ideas for your content.

If you own a direct delivery transport business, you might have to think of some other way to keep your readers coming back for more. For example, your blog could be a kind of travel journal, filled with the interesting places and things you or your drivers see from the cab or at break time. But don't forget to mention the satisfied customers at the end of the journey, too, if the website is for raising awareness of your services and getting more customers.

Content should be interesting, well written, in an appropriate tone, and updated regularly, preferable more than once a week. To bring visitors from search engines, it should also have a smattering of key words and phrases sprinkled around. Think up a catchy title that includes a keyword or two as well.

Reading and Commenting

Once you become a member of the blogging fraternity, you can't just write your own blog, you want other bloggers to read your content, and make comments, and if you reciprocate, you will build up a following and become popular. Anyone blogging as a hobby will soon make virtual friends this way.

Don't forget that, if you belong to social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook, you can set up a feed to let your friends know about your blog posts and get more traffic that way too.

Advertising for Cash

When you accept adverts on your blog that will bring you an income, you are participating in affiliate marketing. You will receive a commission either on the number of views and clicks the ads receive, or on resulting sales, or both. You can display ads from any number of affiliate marketing schemes to have multiple income streams, but remember that a much cluttered blog page can be off-putting to the majority of visitors, so it's best to select just a few.

One of the most well-known way to make money blogging online is Google Adsense. You select the size of the space you want to make available and Google fills it with ads. However, the earnings from just one blog are very meagre, and Google only pays out once you have $100 in your account (60 in the UK and 70 in the Euro zone). Google does give you lots of tips on how to maximize your earnings but you really need to have Adsense ads on multiple web sites to reach payout in a reasonable amount of time.

You could also put Amazon products and referral links on your blog. They pay a slightly better rate than Adsense and will probably have a higher conversion rate. This is because Amazon is so well known, and trusted for internet trading.

ClickBank, Commission Junction and LinkShare are affiliate networks representing many business clients whose products and services you could advertise in your blog. You will get a much higher rate of commission on sales through these networks.

If you sell your own products on-line, you will also advertise these and set up links to your sales pages.

Content for Cash

Some advertisers prefer a more subtle way of raising awareness of their products. They will pay you to write about it in your blog. Sites like Blogsvertise, PayperPost and Social Spark act as agencies for this, putting advertisers and bloggers together for their mutual benefit. The more traffic you receive, the more likely it is that your blog will be selected for a particular assignment. Some of these agencies will not even accept your blog unless you have a Google page rank to prove its popularity.

You've probably gathered from the above that blogging is not likely to make you a fortune. Given time and effort, however, it could give you something of a supplementary income on a regular basis and yes, you can make money blogging online!

Guest Blogging For Enhancement of Web Traffic

Guest blogging is a method adopted by bloggers for increasing visit of more audiences to their blogs. For this, they write posts for publishing on the blogs of other bloggers. As a blogger, you may write a post for appearing on the blog of another blogger. Alternatively, another blogger may write a post for appearing on your blog.

Guest Blogging is a strategic initiative for getting advantages by penetrating into the domain someone else. It therefore requires a lot of home work to be carried out. Your post must make a two-way effort of benefiting the host blog and at the same time, and reaping the benefit for your own business.

Besides strengthening your business relationship with an accomplished publisher, Guest Blogging may benefit you in any of the following ways-

Being in the content marketing, you may be well-versed with your topic but have no independent identity of your as such. You are a nondescript as far as content market is concerned but guest blogging may make you acquainted with your prospective clients along with some authority. You need to submit maximum contents within the shortest time.
Adding more traffic to your site does not necessarily draw more audience because traffic can be bought through pay-per-click or alternative means of advertisement. But traffic generated from a guest blog yield you a group of audience that is curious to know what you say. This creates an opportunity for you to convert them for a long-term business relationship.
Guest blogging builds up the network of your publisher by enlarging their connectivity with accomplished publishers. If you establish a good rapport with your parent blogger, you may succeed in getting a tweet or a link from him that would take you a long way towards getting an independent identity in the content market.
Guest Posting enables you to get a relevant, natural link by the use of anchor text of your choice.

The following are the tips that may interest you

Before submitting your post on another person's blog, get information about the contents and audiences of that blog and their comment about the blog.
Make a convincing approach to the other blogger with regard to your credibility and your strong points why the guest blogger's audience would like to read what you write.
Provide latest statistics about your blog with regard to unique visitors month wise supported by your rankings made by Google, Alexa and Technorati.
Instead of buttressing the other blogger with undue pampering, present yourself with facts and figures in an honest and straightforward manner. Value for the other person's time. Avoid furnishing flowering data about yourself.
Make the other blogger realize that you are well-versed with the blogging activities and that your contents will be unique and will not pose any copyright problem for him.
Convince the other blogger that your contents will be coherent and compelling, providing links to your blogs and samples of online writing.
